Saw the new 1908 as an exhibition piece today. Not my kind of thing but thought I’d share as I hadn’t seen any before today. Didn’t try it on but looks like it will wear quite small. A reliable chronometer grade automatic movement is nice, but doesn't move the needle when justifying a haute horlogerie price tag. The only way a watch goes above K is hand finishing. Granted, the Rolex 1908 has better finishing than the Omega, but not to the level of the JLC and Breguet it competes with at that price level. I think the reason I am attracted to the 1908 is it's Rolex vintage look. I have a 4467, and the micro fluted bezel reminds me of the bezel on the 4467. I don't wear the 4467 often (as it is approaching 80 years of age) and the 1908 gives me a . The 1908 is overpriced when compared to high-horology alternatives that for the most part offer mechanical watches at this price range and the price is justified by the hand made finish, accuracy tend to be good but rarely there is a claim on that regard for them.
I bought the 14270 as it was a sport watch that I could stretch to more formal and the 1908 seems like its gemini twin.a dress watch that can flex towards sport. Basically, do you think the 1908 would be less fussy than the PP/ALS if worn a good bit? It's sold already. But 100% I promise you 1908s have hit the US. My impression was that it was quite thin for a Rolex. Movement was nicely decorated. Not a watch that personally excites me (just prefer other brands for dress watches), but it is very nice.The 1908 is 12k cheaper than the cheapest Code and 15k cheaper than the cheapest automatic Calatrava. They did a good job launching this watch and it has a real chance of succeeding. Time will tell but it’s insane to judge this watch’s success when the first models are just starting to make their way into ADs.
